Welcome to Karl-May.us

This web site is dedicated to Karl May, Germany's most prolific author.

Karl May's first person narratives are, above all, morality tales, yet his message to mankind is often neglected. His most famous work, the Winnetou saga, revolves around a young Apache who learns about and eventually embraces the moral teachings that pave the way to a peaceful co-existance between all the tribes of man on this earth. The very teaching that is so often ignored in our own society where greed and avarice prevail over common sense and the fair practices of equal justice for all.

Help us Free Winnetou!

The Karl May Verlag, long believed to disseminate Karl May's message of peace has succumbed to the same greed for gold that Santer, the murderer of Nsho-tshi and Intshu-tshuna, had. Help us free Winnetou and his blood brother Old Shatterhand from the trademark bondage imposed upon them by the Karl May Verlag and KarlMayUSA. Please add your name to our petition to extinguish the Winnetou trademark.

Nsho-tshi's Trading Post

We are proud to host Nsho-tshi's Trading Post wherein the epic works of Karl May may be purchased. Here too you may peruse other humanitarian titles and Native American Art.

Welcome to Karl May Internet Radio

The True Peace

The first peace, which is the most important,
is that which comes within the souls of people
when they realize their relationship,
their oneness, with the universe and all its powers,
and when they realize that at the center
of the universe dwells Wakan-Taka (the Great Spirit),
and that this center is really everywhere, it is within each of us.
This is the real peace, and the others are but reflections of this.
The second peace is that which is made between two individuals,
and the third is that which is made between two nations.
But above all you should understand that there can never
be peace between nations until there is known that true peace,
which, as I have often said, is within the souls of men.

About us ...

At pow-wows — there are dozens every year — thousands of Germans with a love of the American Indian culture, drink firewater, wear turquoise jewelry and parade around Baden-Württemberg or Schleswig-Holstein dressed as Comanches and Apaches. There are clubs, magazines, trading cards, school curriculums, stupendously popular German-made Wild West films and outdoor theaters, including one high in the sandstone cliffs above the tiny medieval fortress town of Rathen, in Saxony, where cowboys fight Indians on horseback.

The cause of this infatuation is a writer named Karl May (1842-1912), who is virtually unknown in the United States but is the most popular author in German history.

But finally ...

Karl May is also making an impact here in the United States of America thanks to the Karl May Translation Project hosted and funded by Nemsi Books.
